Latest Updates on My Works-in-Progress

I have several (way too many) unpublished works that are in various stages of writing and editing. Below is a little about each, but you can also catch bits of news about my works-in-progress if you search the "Novel-in-progress" label in my blog posts. So far, all are Young Adult or New Adult fiction in a contemporary setting. (Please note that all cover images are my own brainstorms to use as placeholders. They are in no way intended on being final covers for publishing.)

"Big, Fat Faker"

This story is about a girl who likes to write and draw. One summer, the guy who inspired one of her stories gets thrust into her life, but she falls into an old habit of disguising her identity. They proceed through the summer with the guy thinking she's someone else.

For many years, this project was titled "Story" on my laptop and a few sketches of the first chapters were written. It's been a work in progress for so long that I don't even remember when it began. I'd say at least ten years ago, maybe twenty. I honestly don't remember.

I eventually had a brainstorm of how to guide the plot and so outlined for the first time ever. The first draft was finally finished during NaNoWriMo 2018. Currently taking a break before returning for the first round of edits.

"Lift Me Up"

Finished up the first draft and in revisions on this one. This was my NaNoWriMo 2017. It features a very minor character from the world of "Uncrushed" (see below).

In this story, the main character suffers from depression and meets another student with depression. They are from different worlds, but their bond is in their thoughts of death. They are each other's escape from real life. But when real life pushes them apart, can they survive without the other?

"Uncrushed"

In the story, the main character is sixteen year old Aria. She has a major crush on a boy. A crush that's lasted three years. She receives a note from a secret admirer and is convinced it's him. She auditions for the school musical to be near him. However, there's lots of guys in her life. What if the secret admirer isn't him?

This piece started as my NaNoWriMo 2016, but after nine months, it stalled out. It has been through several attempts at editing and rewriting, and I have recently started a major rewrite...again. Crossing my fingers this time it will work out.

Aria Sequel

Ok. No name for this one yet. It is, as of yet, just an idea. I started a very sketchy outline. I often find that after I've invested so much into my characters and world-building, that there's more I want to say about them. This one will take place in the summer following the story in "Uncrushed."

"Eyes on Natalie"

This project is fully written and has been through beta reading and critiques. Eyes on Natalie was actually written as the prequel to "Eyes for Benny" (see below). I wrote it during the NaNoWriMo challenge in 2015 and finished the whole thing in one month.

"Eyes on Natalie" is about a girl who starts her senior band camp crushing on a guy that doesn’t know she exists, but the band’s resident pervert flatters his way into her heart. It’s a whirlwind romance and their lives are changed forever when Natalie discovers she is pregnant.

Her world is torn apart. She loses her boyfriend, her best friend, her favorite music class, and maybe the chance to play drums at her top pick college. She’s even disowned by her own mother. Now, she must put aside her ego and accept the help of her handsome and talented nemesis or risk not graduating, not getting into college, and not being prepared for the arrival of her baby.

"Eyes for Benny"

This was my first successful attempt at a longer work of fiction. I woke early one morning after having a vivid dream, like a scene from a movie. I had to write it down. Three weeks later, I had a finished novella. I'm still debating whether to return to this project and expand it into a full length novel.

"Eyes for Benny" is about a blind college student who is assigned a guide to learn how to get around campus. Natalie is nervous about not knowing anything about the blind student she has to guide. The story follows both points of view and the struggles of dealing with a disability while trying to get a normal college experience. Natalie pulls Benny out of his comfort zone, while he challenges her to come to terms with her past.
