Latest Endeavor

One of the things I love to do is network with other writers online. Writers are a very kind and supportive group of people. I highly suggest (whatever you do, whatever your passion) to find a group of people doing the same thing you do and loving the same thing you love. I have also learned a great deal from reading blog posts and articles they link to. My writing has improved and I've learned of other opportunities out there for writers. Because of my online connections, I have taken on something new.

My latest endeavor has been to find a place to publish flash fiction. I've enjoyed writing these short short stories for my online writers group and feel it is something I can do well in the time I have between my full time job and taking care of my family. I have already started submitting to a couple of magazines. It's hard to wait for feedback but even harder not to share my writing here on my blog!

Cross your fingers with me that something gets accepted somewhere. It would be great validation that my efforts in writing are paying off. It is such a long journey writing and editing a novel (though I love it so far) and a long process getting critiques and submitting for publishing. I believe it is worth the work and the wait, but having some other validation in the near future would be a great thing.

Below is my entry for  Susanna Leonard Hill's Holiday Writing Contest . The challenge is to write a children's holiday story about a holiday treat in 250 words or less. Photo by StockSnap from Pixabay The Scrumptious Tale of an Allergic Kid 146 words Mom rings the doorbell and I tug at my itchy collar. The door opens and we are greeted by the noise of Christmas music and grown-ups chatting. “Matthew, this is my coworker, Mrs. Archer.” I wave. “Welcome!” Mrs. Archer smiles at me. “Follow me to the kitchen. I want to show you all the goodies.” “No thanks,” I say. “I’m not hungry.”  “Oh, but a little elf told me that you could only eat special things, so several of Santa’s little helpers whipped up a bunch of treats that were allergen free.” My ears perk up. The door to the kitchen opens and there’s a full array of glittering cookies and scrumptious looking snacks. Mrs. Archer gestures to the table. “I double and triple checked.
