Can't Stop the Music

So this blog is supposed to be about my writing life and not about my music life. But what if I'm writing about music? Ha ha!

I've begun work on a new novel. It just so happens to be about a girl in high school who's in the band, who writes music, whose name is Aria... So, yeah. My alter ego is a writer, but I write about characters who love music. I guess I just can't get away from it. After all, it is what I know. I have some imagination, but I'm not that inventive.

In an earlier post, I mentioned some lyrics that I was using in another novel. Well guess what... My new songwriter girl novel will also have some original lyrics! I love poetry. I love music. I guess writing song lyrics would be a logical progression for me. I have written song lyrics a couple of times in my past for imaginary songs (that went nowhere other than being jotted down in on scrap paper and jammed in my poetry portfolio). I'm tempted to go one step further with the current lyrics I'm writing. I think I may actually write the song too. Maybe record it (for you, my blog audience, not for the radio or anything). Who knows? Maybe I could promote the novel with the song. Don't you think that would be cool?

The door opens and we are greeted by the noise of Christmas music and grown-ups chatting. “Matthew, this is my coworker, Mrs. Archer.” I wave. “Welcome!” Mrs. Archer smiles at me. “Follow me to the kitchen. I want to show you all the goodies.” “No thanks,” I say. “I’m not hungry.”  “Oh, but a little elf told me that you could only eat special things, so several of Santa’s little helpers whipped up a bunch of treats that were allergen free.” My ears perk up. The door to the kitchen opens and there’s a full array of glittering cookies and scrumptious looking snacks. Mrs. Archer gestures to the table. “I double and triple checked.
